We visited Ghana again in January 2007. Elizabeth, accompanied by Angela Lowry and Anna O’Rourke, joined up with the IGO team from England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The Irish crew were especially interested in the progress at the school at Kasoa, knowing that everyone at home was anxious to hear their report of the progress.
Elizabeth: “The Project is developing really well – even since our return home, the improvements have been tremendous. A lot of the concrete roof has been completed, some doors and windows also. As all the work is done by hand, you can only imagine how many basins of cement have to be carried (on the head) up the ladder and emptied onto the timber and irons to make the roof. It is all so encouraging and is transforming the whole area. A road has been made, a little shop has opened up, more people are moving into the area and children are coming to enquire when the school will be up and running. Part of the building is now ready and the Church is holding their Sunday Morning services and weekly prayer meetings there. We will travel back over in October for the official Opening Celebrations”.
OBUASI - ACAPOLO
During our stay, Elizabeth had the opportunity to return to Obuasi to visit Rev. Rose. In August, the team from Hacketstown Christian Center had visited there for the first time. They were hugely impressed by the tremendous work carried out by Rev. Rose in extremely poor conditions. At that time we purchased some pigs and large rabbits and donated some money for a pen (to house them) to provide some income. On this visit, Elizabeth was glad to see some improvement and found Rev. Rose in good form and encouraged by the continuous support of the church in Hacketstown. Like everywhere in Ghana, there are a lot of orphans and deprived children. Eg. Mary, a young girl, widowed shortly before the birth of her twins, was in need of help. Her 3 month old twin babies were included in our Child Sponsorship Programme and have now been sponsored. Elizabeth was blessed with the opportunity to preach to the Church at Obuasi before leaving.
We also had the opportunity to hear about this amazing school, one of 2 blind schools in Ghana with about 400+ students, all blind, It is in the Eastern Region and is in desperate need of help. We will be visiting it in October 2007. (see the pictures below)
